Direct answer
What is the best p2p exchanges in 2026?
Hodl Hodl ranks #1 overall for p2p exchanges on ChainChoice. Non-custodial Bitcoin P2P marketplace using 2-of-3 P2SH multisig escrow, with accounts opened on an email address alone. It holds that rank under an affiliate-blind methodology scored across 4 published, weighted criteria — the code that ranks providers physically cannot read affiliate payouts (CI-enforced), so a payout can't move a rank. The verdict re-computes on every fee change, incident, or regulatory action; full reasoning and the audit receipt are below.

Best p2p exchanges in 2026
Price the trade, not the fee schedule. Measured on one anchor trade across every venue in the same session, the advertised fee predicted almost nothing about what a buyer actually pays, because the cost in this category is the premium sellers quote over spot. The sharpest illustration: on one large venue the asset you choose costs more than the venue you choose — bitcoin against euro returned ads at roughly eight percent over spot while a stablecoin on the same payment rail, minutes later, returned about one and a half. Then look at escrow, because it is the only thing standing between you and a stranger: ask specifically who can move the coins while the trade is open, since at least one platform sells "escrow protection" in marketing while the word escrow appears nowhere in its terms of service.

Data checked Sep 2026
Non-custodial Bitcoin P2P marketplace using 2-of-3 P2SH multisig escrow, with accounts opened on an email address alone. Strongest on what identity gate stands between you and a trade (10/10): Hodl Hodl's FAQ states "Anonymous - Global P2P trades without identity verification." and its Terms require only "a valid email address, nickname, and password" to open an account. Trading on an email address is the full-marks case; a general reservation to introduce verification later is not a named markdown. Weakest on what you actually pay over the market price (9/10): On 24 September 2026 the cheapest EUR sell offer on a SEPA rail spanning the EUR 200-1,000 anchor was 75,760.54 against a Kraken mid of 74,309.55 — +1.95%, about +2.70% all-in with the published 0.75% maximum fee — on a 100-offer book. Main tradeoff
The fee's incidence is genuinely ambiguous across Hodl Hodl's own surfaces: the FAQ says "Trading fee of 0.75% for every registered user" and "Max 0.75% per trade", the homepage says "Trading fee split between buyer & seller, deducted from BTC amount", and the offers API returns a per-offer nested field fee.author_fee_rate — 66 of the 100 offers at "0.00750000" and 34 at "0.00500000". Budget the full 0.75%. Separately, the cheapest prices in the EUR book are stablecoin and Lightning offers — if you filter on price alone you will end up in a crypto-to-crypto trade, not the fiat purchase you came for.

Published fee, hodlhodl.com/faq fetched 2026-09-24 (HTTP 200), every string below located in the page's raw HTML in this session: "There are different trading fee rates available on the trading platform: Trading fee of 0.75% for every registered user. Trading fee of 0.5% for referrals that registered on the platform with a referral code. This also applies to users who have referred at least one active trader." The same page now words the summary as "Cheap - Low fee: Max 0.75% per trade, a discounted fee of 0.5% applies for referrers and referred users." ANCHOR MEASUREMENT, same session, from the public offers API (GET https://hodlhodl.com/api/v1/offers?filters[side]=sell&filters[currency_code]=EUR&pagination[limit]=100, HTTP 200, no key required): 100 sell offers denominated in EUR were returned. The cheapest offer whose range spans the EUR 200-1,000 anchor on a SEPA rail quoted "price":"75760.54" with "min_amount":"400.00","max_amount":"700.00" and payment methods Revolut, "SEPA (EU) bank transfer" and "SEPA (EU) Instant"; a fixed-size offer at "price":"75000.00" with "min_amount":"1000.00","max_amount":"1000.00" over "SEPA (EU) Instant" fills the anchor only at its upper bound. ARITHMETIC against the Kraken XBTEUR mid of 74,309.55 fetched in the same session (ask 74,309.60 / bid 74,309.50): 75760.54 / 74309.55 = 1.01953, i.e. +1.95% (about +2.70% all-in with the 0.75% maximum fee); 75000.00 / 74309.55 = 1.00929, i.e. +0.93% (about +1.68% all-in). NOTE the traps: the book also carried a SEPA Instant/Wise/Bizum offer at "price":"68785.94" with "min_amount":"990.00","max_amount":"990.00" — 7.43% BELOW spot, from a trader with 12 completed trades — which was excluded from the anchor as not a market price; and the cheapest-looking crypto-rail offers (e.g. 74,955.53 payable in Lightning, USD Coin or Tether) are not a fiat purchase. Fee incidence remains ambiguous across Hodl Hodl's own surfaces: the homepage says "Trading fee split between buyer & seller, deducted from BTC amount" and the API's per-offer fee.author_fee_rate was "0.00750000" on 65 offers, "0.00500000" on 29 and "0.00300000" on 6; the full 0.75% is budgeted against the venue.

Open-source decentralised exchange network running two different trade protocols with two different security models. No need to wait for approval from a central authority." There is no account to open and no operator able to demand documents later. Weakest on what the platform promises when the trade goes wrong (4/10): Bisq's wiki offers mediation "should anything go wrong with their trade", a moderator who "can ban the user" and bonded-BSQ confiscation by the DAO, but neither the wiki, the homepage nor the two incident posts publish a first-response time or a decision window — no number a buyer can hold the network to. Mobile-first Bitcoin P2P app with 2-of-2 multisig escrow and no account registration below a stated volume threshold. Strongest on what identity gate stands between you and a trade (8/10): Peach's homepage promises "No registration, No verification!", but its terms cap unregistered trading at "CHF1000/day" and "CHF100'000/year" and require that "All payment methods used on Peach must be registered in the name of the account holder." A volume threshold and payment-leg name matching: two named markdowns. Weakest on what you actually pay over the market price (4/10): On 24 September 2026 Peach's SEPA ask book held 8 offers; the cheapest, at a 6% premium, priced EUR 576.79 for 732,062 sats — +6.03% over the Kraken mid and about +8.03% all-in with the 2% escrow fee, up from +5.58% in August. Federated Lightning-based P2P exchange where orders are quoted as a percentage premium over an index and bonds stay in the user's own wallet. Strongest on what identity gate stands between you and a trade (10/10): RoboSats' quick-start guide states "To start using RoboSats, you only need a Lightning Wallet and a TOR-enabled browser." No account exists and no coordinator can demand documents later; the Tor requirement is an access barrier, not an identity gate. Frequently asked
Questions people ask before choosing p2p
Why is the advertised fee not the cost?
Because the fee is charged on top of a price the seller sets, and the spread in that price is far larger than any fee in this category. Measured on one anchor trade — bitcoin bought with euro over SEPA, run across every venue in the same session against the same spot reference — the advertised fee was close to uncorrelated with what a buyer pays, and in places it ran the wrong way: venues advertising less charged more. Price the specific asset and rail you will use, at the moment you use it, and treat the fee line as a footnote.
Which asset should I trade over P2P?
Often not the one you assume. On at least one large venue the asset costs more than the venue: bitcoin against euro returned a handful of ads at roughly eight percent over spot, while a stablecoin on the same payment rail minutes later returned dozens of ads at around one and a half percent. Thin order books drive premiums as much as platform policy does, so if your goal is to move value rather than to acquire a specific asset, checking the stablecoin pair on the same rail before committing is usually the single largest saving available here.
What does "escrow protected" actually mean?
It varies enough that it is the second-heaviest criterion here. The strongest designs are non-custodial: the coins sit in a multisig neither party can move alone, so the platform cannot seize or lose them. The weakest are custodial holds where the platform simply keeps the coins and promises to arbitrate. One venue in this pool sells "escrow protected" on its homepage while the word escrow appears zero times in its terms of service, which instead promise only that the seller's assets are locked as part of a transaction procedure. Read the terms rather than the landing page, because the landing page is not the contract.
