How this ranking works

Everything the table draws on continues here: how firm the #1 is, the per-criterion arithmetic behind each score, who pays ChainChoice, and the full guide to choosing.

Direct answer

What is the best perp dexs in 2026?

Gains Network (gTrade) ranks #1 overall for perp dexs on ChainChoice. Synthetic leverage against a vault — heavily audited, long clean record. It holds that rank under an affiliate-blind methodology scored across 2 published, weighted criteria — the code that ranks providers physically cannot read affiliate payouts (CI-enforced), so a payout can't move a rank. The verdict re-computes on every fee change, incident, or regulatory action; full reasoning and the audit receipt are below.

Best perp dexs in 2026

The best perp DEX depends on what you weight. Hyperliquid (its own L1) runs a fully onchain orderbook, while dYdX (its own Cosmos appchain) uses a validator-matched orderbook that settles onchain; GMX and Jupiter price trades from an oracle against a liquidity pool; Gains Network is synthetic against a vault. We rank on the two universal quality signals — security & track record and decentralization / trust-minimization (is matching onchain, is collateral self-custodial, who controls the contracts) — and show the model, chain, leverage and live TVL as context, because the best venue depends on which chain you trade on and how much you value trust-minimization vs liquidity.

Gains Network (gTrade)
Synthetic leverage against a vault — heavily audited, long clean record
Data checked Sep 2026
Gains Network's gTrade offers synthetic leveraged trading: instead of an orderbook or a pool of the traded asset, positions settle against gToken vaults (USDC, DAI, GNS or WETH collateral) at a Chainlink-fed price, which lets it list a very wide range of markets (crypto, forex, stocks) at high leverage. Live since 2021, now on Arbitrum, Polygon, Base, MegaETH and ApeChain, self-custodial, governed by GNS (Snapshot + a Gnosis Safe multisig). Extensively audited with no contract exploit that has drained trader collateral or the vaults in 4+ years — a strong track record.
Best for: Longest clean track record here + extensive audits

6 products we looked at and left out
A shortlist is only honest if it says who it turned away. Each of these was assessed against the same published criteria as the ranked table and excluded for a stated reason — not overlooked.
We assessed 10 products here and rank 4 — 40% of what we looked at. That share is of the products we assessed, not of the category: how many exist is not something we can count, so we do not claim a number for it.

Main tradeoff
Synthetic vault model: you trade against the gToken vaults, whose health matters — the 2022 LUNA collapse stressed the original design (since reworked)

Recommendation summary
What should decide this category
Do you require fully onchain, verifiable matching (Hyperliquid), a validator-matched orderbook (dYdX), or is an oracle-priced pool (GMX, Jupiter) acceptable?
Which chain do you trade on — some perp DEXs run their own chain (Hyperliquid, dYdX), others are on Arbitrum or Solana?
How much do you weight a longer exploit-free track record versus the newest, highest-liquidity venue?

Helix (Injective)
Fully onchain orderbook on Injective — no offchain matching
Helix is the flagship perp DEX on Injective: a fully onchain central-limit order book where matching runs in the chain's exchange module, so there is no offchain matching engine to trust and collateral stays self-custodial. Live since 2022 (Injective Pro from 2021), governed by INJ on-chain governance, with a clean exploit record.
Best for: Fully onchain orderbook — no offchain matching

dYdX
dYdX
Its own Cosmos appchain — decentralised orderbook, self-custodial
dYdX v4 runs on its own Cosmos-SDK appchain (the dYdX Chain): a decentralised validator set runs an in-memory orderbook for fast matching, with trades and settlement committed onchain — self-custodial throughout. Governed by DYDX via onchain staking + governance. Live since 2023 (v4; the earlier v3 ran on StarkEx), audited, with no contract exploit that has drained user or LP funds (the 2023 v3 YFI insurance-fund loss was market manipulation, not a code exploit).
Best for: Decentralised validator-run orderbook on its own chain

Hyperliquid
Hyperliquid
The onchain orderbook leader — its own L1, self-custodial, fully onchain
Hyperliquid runs a genuine onchain central-limit order book on its own L1 (HyperCore + HyperEVM, HyperBFT consensus): every order, trade, liquidation and settlement is L1 state, with no offchain matching engine and self-custodial collateral. Live since 2023, governed by HYPE. It is widely the largest perp DEX by volume and open interest, but younger, with no public audit of the core engine (its audits page lists only Zellic audits of the legacy bridge) and a concentrated validator set (Hyper Foundation validators held 48.0% of active stake in September 2026) — and in March 2025 validators voted within minutes to delist and force-settle the JELLY market after an oracle-manipulation attack on the HLP vault, a centralisation/governance intervention (not a contract exploit) that it has since moved to reduce.
Best for: Fully onchain orderbook — verifiable, self-custodial

Frequently asked
Questions people ask before choosing perp dexs
What is the safest perp DEX?
Safety on a perp DEX comes from how long it has run without a contract exploit that lost user or LP funds, the depth of its audits, and how trust-minimized it is — whether matching and settlement are fully onchain (verifiable) or rely on an offchain engine you must trust, whether your collateral is self-custodial, and whether an admin can change the contracts. We score exactly those permanent facts, and record every contract exploit honestly (e.g. GMX's 2025 v1 exploit) while distinguishing them from market-manipulation or governance events.
Why is TVL (or volume) not in the ranking?
TVL, open interest and volume measure how much capital and activity a perp DEX attracts — adoption, not safety or trust-minimization. A venue can be the largest by volume and still be young, thinly audited, or reliant on an offchain matching engine. So we show live TVL for context but rank on the permanent trust facts. Which trading model (onchain orderbook, oracle-AMM, synthetic) is best is also shown, not scored, because it depends on what and where you trade.
Are onchain perps really decentralized?
It varies, which is why we score it. The most trust-minimized venues settle and match fully onchain with self-custodial collateral (you always control withdrawal) and decentralized validators; others use an offchain matching engine for speed, or keep upgrade keys that could change the rules. We grade matching (onchain vs offchain), custody (self-custodial vs contract-custodied) and governance from permanent facts, and surface centralization events — like a validator or governance intervention — honestly rather than burying them.
Why isn't Hyperliquid ranked #1?
Hyperliquid leads the category on adoption and is the only fully onchain orderbook here, which is why it wins the decentralization axis — but security & track record is weighted 60%, and there Gains Network edges ahead: it has run since 2021 (vs 2023) with a longer exploit-free record and more extensive public audit coverage, while Hyperliquid is younger with lighter core-engine audits and the March-2025 JELLY governance intervention on its record. So Hyperliquid ranks behind Gains Network on the published criteria. Our ranking is affiliate-blind and volume-blind — adoption is shown for context, never scored, so being the largest by volume never moves a provider up.

How this ranking is built
Reviewed on security & track record (years live, audit depth, any contract exploit that lost funds — weighed by severity and recency) and decentralization / trust-minimization (onchain vs offchain matching, self-custody of collateral, governance) — permanent facts, sourced and dated. The perp model (onchain orderbook / oracle-AMM / synthetic), chain, max leverage, market count and live TVL are shown for context, not scored — which model or chain is best is use-case-dependent, and TVL measures adoption, not the trust facts we rank on.
