Decision guide
What matters most before choosing in this category
Price the trade, not the fee schedule. Measured on one anchor trade across every venue in the same session, the advertised fee predicted almost nothing about what a buyer actually pays, because the cost in this category is the premium sellers quote over spot. The sharpest illustration: on one large venue the asset you choose costs more than the venue you choose — bitcoin against euro returned ads at roughly eight percent over spot while a stablecoin on the same payment rail, minutes later, returned about one and a half. Then look at escrow, because it is the only thing standing between you and a stranger: ask specifically who can move the coins while the trade is open, since at least one platform sells "escrow protection" in marketing while the word escrow appears nowhere in its terms of service.
Key question
What is the actual premium over spot for the exact asset and payment rail you will use?
Key question
While the trade is open, who can move the coins — you and the counterparty, or the platform?
Key question
What do the terms of service actually promise if the fiat payment is reversed after release?

Data checked Aug 2026
Non-custodial Bitcoin P2P marketplace using 2-of-3 P2SH multisig escrow, with accounts opened on an email address alone. Strongest on what identity gate stands between you and a trade (10/10): "Anonymous - Global P2P trades without KYC/AML." The full onboarding is "Sign up with an e-mail and a password. Click on the confirmation link you received in your e-mail. You are good to go!" The FAQ ties this to the custody model rather than to a promise, which is the stronger form of the claim: not holding fiat or… Weakest on what the platform promises when the trade goes wrong (9/10): The only venue in the pool publishing a numeric FIRST-RESPONSE commitment: "If you or your counterparty start a dispute, the support manager will contact you in the contract's chat within 12 hours after the dispute was started." The procedure and the fund treatment are also stated: "the support manager will make a… Published price: Published fee, hodlhodl.com/faq fetched 2026-08-06, every string below located in the page's raw HTML in this session: "There are different trading fee rates available on the trading platform: Trading fee of 0.75% for every registered user. Main tradeoff
The fee's incidence is genuinely ambiguous across Hodl Hodl's own surfaces: the FAQ says "Trading fee of 0.75% for every registered user" and "Max 0.75% per trade", the homepage says "Trading fee split between buyer & seller, deducted from BTC amount", and the offers API returns a per-offer nested field fee.author_fee_rate — 66 of the 100 offers at "0.00750000" and 34 at "0.00500000". Budget the full 0.75%. Separately, the cheapest prices in the EUR book are stablecoin and Lightning offers — if you filter on price alone you will end up in a crypto-to-crypto trade, not the fiat purchase you came for.

Published fee, hodlhodl.com/faq fetched 2026-08-06, every string below located in the page's raw HTML in this session: "There are different trading fee rates available on the trading platform: Trading fee of 0.75% for every registered user. Trading fee of 0.5% for referrals that registered on the platform with a referral code. This also applies to users who have referred at least one active trader." The same page also states "Cheap - Low fee: Max 0.75% per trade". ANCHOR MEASUREMENT, same session, from the public offers API (GET https://hodlhodl.com/api/v1/offers?filters[side]=sell&filters[currency_code]=EUR&pagination[limit]=100, no key required): 100 EUR sell offers returned. The cheapest offer accepting a SEPA bank transfer quoted "price":"56917.18" with "min_amount":"200.00","max_amount":"650.00" and payment_method_instructions listing "SEPA (EU) bank transfer", "SEPA (EU) Instant" and "Revolut". ARITHMETIC: 56917.18 / 55800.25 = 1.02002, i.e. +2.00% over the Kraken XBTEUR mid; adding the published 0.75% maximum fee gives roughly +2.75% all-in. NOTE the trap: the cheapest EUR offer in the same book, "price":"56266.42" (+0.84%), is payable only in Bitcoin Lightning Network, USD Coin, Tether or Liquid Tether, so it is not the same trade and is excluded from the anchor. Corrected during verification: the draft cited 56,216.60 / +0.67% for that offer; the value observed in this session is 56,266.42 / +0.84%.

Open-source decentralised exchange network running two different trade protocols with two different security models. Strongest on what identity gate stands between you and a trade (10/10): The homepage states there is "No Identity Verification" and "Get started in minutes. No need to wait for approval from a central authority." There is no account to register and no central operator able to impose a check later, because the network is not a company holding the book. Federated Lightning-based P2P exchange where orders are quoted as a percentage premium over an index and bonds stay in the user's own wallet. Strongest on what identity gate stands between you and a trade (9/10): No account and no document: "To start using RoboSats, you only need a Lightning Wallet and a TOR-enabled browser." Held below a 10 because the Tor requirement is itself an access barrier and because the reachable clearnet entry points are the coordinators' own "unsafe." hosts, so the frictionless path and the private… Weakest on what the platform promises when the trade goes wrong (3/10): No timeline and no venue-hosted process: "Support and dispute mediation is available through the public RoboSats SimpleX group chat."
