Starting path

Choose a DEX on security and decentralization, not hype.

Decentralized exchanges ranked on security & track record and decentralization — with AMM model, chain reach and TVL shown as facts, not scored.
category.dex.promise Reviewed on security & track record (years live, audit depth, exploit history) and decentralization (immutable vs upgradeable vs admin-controlled) — permanent facts, sourced and dated. AMM model, chain reach and live TVL (DefiLlama, dated) are shown for context, not scored — which AMM is best is use-case-dependent, and TVL measures adoption, not the permanent quality facts we rank on.

Decision guide
What matters most before choosing in this category
The best DEX depends on what you weight and where you trade: Uniswap has the only immutable-core contracts here and the longest exploit-free track record; Curve gives the lowest slippage for stablecoins; single-chain leaders like Aerodrome (Base) or Raydium (Solana) dominate their own chains. We rank on the two universal quality signals — security & track record and decentralization — and show AMM model, chains and TVL as context so you can pick for your use case.
Key question
Are you swapping volatile pairs (Uniswap) or stablecoins/pegged assets (Curve)?
Key question
Which chain are you on — some DEXs dominate a single chain (Aerodrome on Base, Raydium on Solana)?
Key question
Do you require immutable, non-upgradeable contracts, or is an upgradeable governed protocol acceptable?

Uniswap
The reference AMM — concentrated liquidity, immutable core, deeply audited
Data checked Jul 2026
Uniswap pioneered the modern AMM and runs a non-upgradeable (immutable) core — the only immutable-core DEX in this set, so its contracts cannot be changed or rugged. Its v3/v4 concentrated-liquidity AMM lets liquidity providers target price ranges for far higher capital efficiency than a constant-product pool. Live since 2018 across Ethereum and 12+ EVM chains, extensively audited with no major protocol exploit, and governed by the UNI token via the Uniswap DAO.

Main tradeoff
Concentrated-liquidity LPing carries impermanent-loss risk if you misjudge the range

Frequently asked
Questions people ask before choosing dexs
What is the safest DEX?
Safety on a DEX comes from how long it has run without a major exploit, the depth of its audits, and whether its core contracts are immutable (cannot be changed or rug-pulled) or upgradeable by an admin/governance. We score exactly those permanent facts — security & track record and decentralization — and record every major exploit in a protocol's history honestly (e.g. Curve's 2023 Vyper bug). Uniswap's immutable, extensively-audited, exploit-free core leads on this.
Why is TVL not in the ranking?
Live TVL measures how much capital a DEX holds — adoption, not safety. A protocol can be huge and still have had an exploit. So we show live TVL for context (DefiLlama, dated) but rank on the permanent quality facts — security and decentralization. Which AMM model is best is also shown but not scored, because it is use-case-dependent.
Which AMM model should I pick?
Concentrated liquidity (Uniswap v3, Maverick) is the most capital-efficient for active LPs but carries range/impermanent-loss risk; stableswap (Curve) gives the lowest slippage for pegged assets; weighted pools (Balancer) allow custom multi-token exposure; constant-product is the simplest. There is no single best AMM — it depends on what you trade, which is why we show the model as a fact rather than scoring it.
