Strongest on cost at production query volume (10/10): There is no vendor invoice at any query volume — MIT licence, self-hosted, and its own benchmark shows a workload needing 31 MB of Postgres and 108k RPC credits versus 1.1 GB and 167k for the equivalent subgraph, so the infrastructure you do pay for is smaller than the alternative's. Weakest on vendor continuity and control (4/10): On 17 February 2026 the Monad Foundation announced "the Monad Foundation has acquired the team behind Ponder." The maintainers of the pool's leading neutral open-source option are now employed by a competing L1's foundation. The announcement commits only to "the leading open-source indexing solution for EVM… Published price: No commercial pricing exists.

Why is vendor continuity weighted so heavily?
Because in this category it is the base rate, not the exception. Products here have been acquired, handed to new operators, or sunset outright within a year or two of launch — including one backed by an acquisition and an SLA.
Is a hosted service or a self-hosted framework better?
They fail differently. Hosted removes operational work and adds vendor risk; self-hosted does the reverse. What is scored is whether you have the option at all — an open licence and published self-host instructions.
Does subgraph compatibility matter if I am not using The Graph?
It matters as an exit route. Logic written to a spec that at least one other host accepts can move; logic written to a proprietary format cannot.
