Is this not the same as choosing an NFT marketplace?
No, and they are ranked separately here for that reason. A marketplace is where you SELL; this is where you DEPLOY. The marketplace question is approval risk and what a round trip costs, and it is scored in nft_marketplace. The question here is what you still own after the company is gone: who holds the contract, whether the metadata resolves without them, whether royalties keep paying, and what they have already abandoned. A creator can pick a marketplace again next year. The contract is deployed once.
The platform is clearly still running. Is that not enough?
It is not, and this pool is the proof. The platform that scores lowest on contract ownership is unambiguously alive — its health endpoint returns healthy and its API is serving. Liveness and custody are orthogonal, so a creator checking 'are they still around?' would pass it. In the other direction, four candidates that looked fine were dead: one returns HTTP 200 while the page itself reads that the service went offline in January 2026, and another 301s to a parent page describing the company as 2020-2026. Status codes lie about dead platforms, so every entry here had to establish liveness positively and with a date.
Everyone supports royalties. Why is that only 16%?
Because supporting them and setting them are different, and the gap is measurable. Three of the nine have shipped live contracts with an EMPTY royaltyInfo — including the platform that scores highest on royalty design, which tells you the failure is in what gets deployed rather than in what is offered. Royalties also depend on marketplaces choosing to honour them, so they are the least enforceable of the four axes. Contract ownership and metadata permanence are weighted higher because they are the ones nobody else can take away from you.
