A stronger fit when the tax job is less about the lightest filing flow and more about cleaner accounting handoff, audit posture, and higher-complexity reporting support.

How you can lose money here, and what the ranking scores
  • Regulatory failure (Ledgible 5/10): no licence where you are, or a forced market exit.
Scored by Which country's actual tax form comes out at the end — named, and for the year I am filing? · 32%
  • Exit failure (Ledgible 6/10): you cannot get out at par, on time, or with what is yours.
Scored by Can my accountant take this without redoing it — and if I stop paying, does my per-lot basis still leave with me? · 20%
  • Information failure: the number is wrong or bought, or your data leaks.
Scored by Which lot did it decide I sold, and does that method match what my tax authority actually requires? · 26% (Ledgible 4/10)
Scored by My history has DeFi, staking, NFTs, a rug and ten transfers between my own wallets — what does it do with each one? · 22% (Ledgible 5/10)

Review story
Why this provider can still be the right call
The short story
Portable record and prior year access — 6/10
Why it works
Users who need accountant-ready crypto tax reporting with stronger export depth and higher-complexity handling.
When to step back
Compare the full pool — the measurable record differs more than the marketing does.
Before you act
The few things worth checking before you trust this as your answer
Before you act
Verify supported data sources, export depth, jurisdiction fit, and whether the reporting workflow matches your accountant or audit needs before committing.
What changed
Still strongest where accountant-ready reporting and more formal handoff matter more than the easiest mainstream filing experience.
Choose something else if
Choose Koinly if broader mainstream coverage and a more self-serve filing workflow matter more than accountant-first reporting depth.
Tax software products are reviewed on the named tax form they produce for your country and filing year (32%), which lot they decided you sold and whether your tax authority requires that method (26%), what they do with DeFi, staking, NFTs, a rug and transfers between your own wallets (22%), and whether your accountant can take the output without redoing it and your per-lot basis leaves with you if you stop paying (20%). The form leads because the filed artefact is scored, never the country count: a served vendor page must name a statutory form, its jurisdiction and the year being filed, and when the newest form is for a closed tax year, that is worse than none because it looks fileable.
Coverage signal

Workflow signal
Verified 19 August 2026 against the provider's own published sources; read again 29 September 2026.
Tradeoff signal
Tradeoff: The $49 is a lifetime-transaction toll, not a this-year toll, and the caps that decide your bill are published only inside a PNG. Ledgible's own words: "Pricing is based on the total number of transactions you've made from the beginning of your transaction history to the end of the current tax year date (rather than annual transactions)" (support.ledgible.io/hc/en-us/articles/4405478844045, updated 9 August 2026). A filer with eight years of history and four trades this year is priced on all eight years. The base tier is also far narrower than the pricing page admits — "The basic package starts at $49 and includes up to 2 wallets and 1 exchange in their data sources with up to 200 transactions." (article 360058705432); that 2-wallet and 1-exchange limit appears NOWHERE on ledgible.io/pricing/, whose own base-tier image says only 'Tax-year reporting and up to 200 transactions'. (The pricing page does print '2 wallets', but inside an Enterprise Accounting usage example, not as the $49 cap — do not read it as the consumer limit.) Second, the buyer arriving from the marketing site will find the automation isn't there: the FAQ says "Yes, the Ledgible Platform offers full support for DeFi and NFT trading." while the documentation says "NFT tracking isn’t done automatically on Ledgible, so tracking the activity will be best done manually.", DeFi auto-categorisation covers only Ethereum and Algorand, and "However, income cannot be automatically detected and therefore transactions that are to be taxed as such must be designated by the user." — so every staking reward, airdrop and fork is hand-labelled. Third, and most expensive to discover late: this is a US-only filing artefact whose US rulebook is stale. Rev. Proc. 2024-28 wallet-level basis allocation is not mentioned once in 277 knowledge-base articles — while Ledgible's institutional whitepaper explains the rule in detail, so the silence is in the consumer product, not in the company. The FIFO/LIFO/HIFO guidance still cites the superseded IRS Virtual Currency FAQ Q39-41, and the preparer instructions still assert crypto is 'not currently reported on 1099s' in the first Form 1099-DA season.

What is the best crypto tax software for most users?
The best option is usually the one that supports your real transaction mix, jurisdiction, and wallet or exchange coverage without forcing heavy manual cleanup.
Do I need crypto tax software if I only use a few platforms?
Not always, but tax software becomes much more useful as soon as you have multiple wallets, exchanges, or onchain transactions that are hard to reconcile manually.
What matters most when choosing crypto tax software?
The ranking weighs whether your country's actual tax form comes out at the end, named and for the year you are filing (32%), which lot it decides you sold and whether that method matches what your tax authority requires (26%), what it does with DeFi, staking, NFTs and transfers between your own wallets (22%), and whether your accountant can take the record without redoing it, and keep it if you stop paying (20%).
