- The publicly filed agreement contains a conflicts disclosure most buyers never read, and it is more candid than anything on the marketing site: "Coinbase does not engage in front-running, but is aware of Orders or imminent Orders and may execute a trade for its own inventory (or the account of an affiliate) while in possession of that knowledge", alongside "Coinbase may act in a principal capacity with respect to certain Orders" and the acknowledgement that "when acting as principal, the Coinbase Entities may have an incentive to favor their own interests and the interests of their affiliates over a particular Client" (www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1838028/000162828024030157/exhibit101-8xk.htm). Coinbase says it mitigates this with "separate teams and an information barrier between the agency trading business and principal trading". Note also that coinbase.com/prime returned HTTP 403 to every automated fetch in this session, so all Coinbase evidence here comes from its developer documentation and its SEC-filed contract, not from the product page.
